Tragedy With PGI Nurse

...Were stopped by locals to perform her last rites in family’s own courtyard

The Tribune in its February 16 edition carried a heartrending story about three Christian sisters from Haryana’s Pratap Nagar area in Yamunanagar district, one of them senior Staff Nurse at PGI, Chandigarh, who failed to fulfil their mother’s last wish - to bury her mortal remains in their own courtyard, following stiff opposition by local residents. The harried sisters had to dig a grave for her at three different spots and ferry her body from one place to another to perform her last rites.

“There is no cemetery for Christian community in the Pratap area of the town. My mother bought a piece of land in the Kutipur village area for grave, but could not do so. She had wished to be buried in her own courtyard, but we failed to fulfill her last wish”, tells the grief-stricken daughter.
