PUNE: A report from Pune said that as many as 39 nursing graduates from the 50th batch were inducted into the military nursing service (MNS) at a special official ceremony organized at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) here recently.

Lt Gen Nardeep Naithani, director-cum- commandant, AFMC, was the chief guest on the occasion. The illustrious ceremony was attended by, among others, matrons, senior officers of Pune garrison, teachers and parents of the cadets.

While addressing the newly-commissioned officers, Lt Gen Naithani said “Military service nursing officers are rendering exemplary services to the troops and their families located in peace stations, difficult terrains, counter-insurgency operations pockets and missions in India and overseas, which is a matter of pride for the country”

He urged them to uphold the rich ethos, culture and glorious traditions of the services. "The cadets, who are throbbing with energy and intrigue, should try their best to deliver with utmost compassion, dignity, empathy, and humility when it comes to calling of duty to the nation" he has piece advice for the young recruits.

He also felicitated meritorious students on the occasion. Lt Alphonsa George was awarded the Lt Gen KS Master Memorial silver medal and Silver Jubilee rolling trophy for securing the top slot in the 4th-year of B.Sc. nursing university examination. The Gen Cariappa Rolling Trophy for the 'Best All-Round Nursing Student' was awarded to Lt Rashmi Yadav.

The college is known for preparing nursing practitioners to be able to shoulder the responsibilities of efficient ward managers and educationalists for all three services, viz the Army, the Navy, and the Air force.
