Lt Gen Anup Banerji assumes charge as DG (AFMS)

Lt Gen Anup Banerji, with decades of illustrious career to credit, has assumed charge as the Director-General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) at a simple ceremony.

An alumnus of the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, Lt Gen Anup Banerji is an acclaimed cardiologist and an exceptional administrator. Before assuming the present charge, Lt Gen Banerji held several key clinical and staff positions during his eventful service stints in the AFMS.

 Lt Gen Banerji’s stint as Head of the Department of Medicine and Cardiology at MH CTC, Pune and Army Hospital R&R, Consultant (Medicine & Cardiology) at CH (EC), MG (Med) MG & G Area, Commandant, AMC Centre, and College, Lucknow and DGMS (Navy) had been intriguing and eventful.

A highly decorated soldier, Lt Gen Banerji was awarded the coveted Sena Medal for his distinguished services, in 1986. He was appointed honorary surgeon (PHS) to the President of India on January 27, 2019. He served as the DGMS (Army) prior to the present assignment.

 Lt Gen Banerji, who believes in giving his hundred percent while in the line of duty, asserts with oodles of optimism “I shall carry forward the rich legacy of good work left behind my predecessors and bringing more synergy to delivery of healthcare to the AFMS with special focus on Combat Medical Support”. He says that his emphasis would be more on providing a thrust to the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) to their satisfaction.
