Nursing student ends life at Chhatrapati Pramilaraje Hospital hostel in Kolhapur

KOLHAPUR – a promising career was cut short when a second year nursing student ended her life by hanging to a ceiling fan of  her hostel room at Chhatrapati Pramilaraje Hospital (CPR), the other day. The police have not been able to ascertain the motive behind the suicide.

The deceased – Shefali Raju Pawar, aka Pooja, was found dead in her hostel room under mysterious circumstances. Her friends immediately informed the college authorities, who rushed her to the nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead by the doctors.

Shefali, a native of Shiroli Pulachi in the Hatkanangale taluka, is survived by her mother and two siblings. “She was a wonderful person known for her personable manners, always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need”, her hostel mate said fighting back tears.

The police informed that Shefali, who had joined nursing course two years ago, was staying in the CPR hostel, adding that on the penultimate night, she went to her room after having dinner with her hostel mates. Her room-mate, Shraddha Gade, woke up early in the morning on the accursed day, only to find Shefali’s missing from her bed. Gade thought Shefali might be busy getting ready for classes.

A distracted Gade, who could not attend her classes that day, came back to her room looking for Shefali. Her desperate hunt proved to be a wild goose chase as Shefali was not to be found there and around.  Shefali was later found hanging to the ceiling fan of the room next to her.

The police informed they were investigating into the incident leading the young nursing student resorting to take the extreme step. The police have not come across any suicide note, however, the deceased’s mobile phone was found lying on the table used in the execution of suicide. They are checking Shefali’s call data records offering leads to the nerve-chilling suicide.
